This piece was prompted by the unhealthy rivalry existing among political office holders, in Kogi state both state and national assembly, the existing battle of supremacy among political gladiators in all parts of the state which is very obvious and clear to an average Kogite and other neighbouring States within the country.
This battle started early from the political struggle that later produced those that we have in positions today as representatives at various levels I mean the elected ones. In the real sense, we all believe that those competitions that do exist among political parties during electioneering campaigns are normal as the electoral act clearly made provision for such political activities to allow electorates decide who their representatives should be within a given political dispensation i.e , every political offices are tenured.
On a clear note, I have never seen where politics is defined as a “game of do or die affairs” that’s why I am wondering at the length of which politics is been played in our dear State.
One will expect that after the competitions of diverse forms that existed among political parties, political gladiators during the electioneering campaigns and the legal battles that begot interpretations by competent Court of law to cases emanating from the elections should be enough.
While the move towards delivering based on their political manifestos and promises made to the electorates takes the centre stage but the reverse is the case.
This very issue is happening everywhere across board but I must start from my dear state so as to be able to see clearly after cleaning all obstacles blocking my sight of seeing developments then I will now call on other states to emulate with all boldness.
After the legal battle that emanated from the state governorship election, other political elective positions both state legislators and federal legislators representing the state, what we expected from every arms of those representatives is the delivering of democracy dividends but we’re not experiencing that in our state and even if we’re experiencing, is not still enough based on our expectations from them.
Am very much aware that the state government are trying their best to put the state in a good shape, the legislators both State and federal level are making laws proposed at favouring Kogites, empowerment are also going on in different forms ranging from distribution of motorcycles, grinding machines, tricycles, cars and etc.
Aside the level of politics played with those empowerment of a thing that creates room for empowering wrong set of people, we’re saying that our expectations are far beyond those things and is high time we forge ahead by changing the political scene of the state for good so that other states will be call upon to emulate our politicking style and better the lives of vast majority via quality representation, delivery of dividends of democracy with all fairness and equity, transparency, accountability and sincerity of purpose.
This a clarion call on Kogites especially youths to take the bull by the horn and take bold steps in bridging the gap of disunity among political gladiators in our dear state as their unity is more beneficial compare to the present scene of disunity noticed among them.
Is very unfortunate that youths are the major tools used in the ongoing political war in our dear state.
The earlier we wake up to the reality that those leaders doesn’t mean well for us for engaging us in such a dirty job the better it will be for us as an individuals and state at large.
Am always sad whenever I see youths fronting protests, press conferences in solidarity with those leaders that are at war using their fellow teaming youths that are unemployed and those that are old enough to be our parents the people involved in those insincere protests and press conferences are always prompt by poverty inflicted on them by most of those leaders as a result of their decisions and actions.
I am saying this without fear of favour that the possibility of putting Kogi state in a united basket, the teaming youths are you the major determinant reasons be that we have never get this type of opportunity in the political history of the state where 80% of the executive cabinets are made up of youths, 90% of our State legislators are youths and the national assembly law makers that are from our state are 90% youths.
It still baffles me often whenever I see kogite celebrating the appointment of youths into positions as if we don’t have youths that are in the rightful positions to Right the wrongs of the past.
Is high time we concentrate less on the agitation of more youths in positions but concentrate more on the other side which is the major task by checkmating those youths that are in positions already constructively and complementing efforts of those that are willing to perform and call to order those that are not trying up to expectations.
The NOT TOO YOUNG TO RUN bill is a commendable bill to enhance more involvement of youths in political positions in the country but those youths in positions today has the highest role to play in the quest to Make the bill a reality.
The bill can only be supported by our leaders both political and religious, many more youths if those youths in power today are ready to lay the foundation by operating in a different way that is of great Benefit to our dear State.
Conclusively, I have mentioned earlier that we have witnessed series of empowerment and dividends of democracy from some specific representatives to their constituents but is high time they come together and achieve a common goal that will be of enormous benefit to Kogites.
For instance, the struggle for the Resuscitation of the great Ajaokuta steel company and other meaningful dreams can only be actualized under the prevailing power of unity, peaceful coexistence among our leaders both religious and political, oneness among every Kogites and sincerity of purpose.
Am also aware of project attractions to communities, LGA and state at large as the case may be via the collaborative efforts of the executive, legislators and other opinion leaders in a given area or state but how possible could this be in the midst unhealthy rivalry/supremacy battle among those leaders?
All we need is peace, unity and harmony among them so that those projects Will not elude our dear State.
The funds committed to those Pro and Anti protests and press conferences can fix some amenities in our dear State. I have visited a community that needs less than 200k to fix water.
On a clear note, funds used for protests and press conferences should be diverted or channeled to developing our dear State no matter how small the fund might be, it’s equal to doing something good.
NOTE: in a clear term, I have come to the conclusion that most of our political office holders are using those crisis to cover their failures, distract us as citizens from making our constitutional demands from them as our Representatives and thereby enriching themselves and families in disguise as most of them are benefiting from the crisis either monetary or otherwise. All we’re requesting mainly from our political office holders in Kogi state now is competition in delivering of dividends of democracy such as creation of job opportunities, prompt payment of emoluments of the existing civil servants in the state, absolute alleviation of poverty, provision of stable power supply, provision of portable/adequate water supply, adequate security of lives and properties, and other social amenities to every parts of the state and not unnecessary rivalry and battle of supremacy as we’re experiencing now.
THE BULK OF DECISION IS LEFT FOR THE YOUTHS EITHER TO ALLOW OUR FUTURE AND THAT OF GENERATION YET UNBORN TO BE MORTGAGED UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF UNDUE CRISIS OR TO SAVE OUR FUTURE AND THAT OF GENERATION UNBORN.
SOMETIMES, THE TIME TO ACT IS NOW OR NEVER.
Long live Federal Republic Of Nigeria.
Long live Kogi state the confluence of opportunities.
